I’m sold on native grasses. As I displace my shade tolerant variety of short rooted fescue and rye I need to identify those native grasses that are shade tolerant as well. Most of the grasses I have found need a good drenching of sun I order to display their glory.
You're right, most need full sun. But Deschampsia cespitosa (tufted hairgrass) and Chasmanthium latifolium (northern sea oats) will both tolerate shade. There are also various sedges and rushes that thrive in shade.
