Why is it that there are birds flitting about all day when I'm not paying attention, but when I go sit in the cold to count them there are none to be found? To be fair, I did spy today a Carolina chickadee, a cardinal, a turkey vulture and some crows, and I heard (but didn't see) some mourning doves.
exactly....sat down in the cold and they just laughed at us, flying fast enough to avoid identification. Merlin app was our base of operations. Did see a red-tailed hawk (eying our chicken; i assume the chicken doesn't count). Also some bluejays and other regulars.
