The Great Backyard Bird Count runs today through Monday. Find a comfy perch in your backyard and count the birds you see or hear for 15 minutes or more. Then submit your findings via the Merlin Bird ID or eBird apps. That’s it! (Optional but encouraged: tell us how it goes here in the comments.)

Why is it that there are birds flitting about all day when I'm not paying attention, but when I go sit in the cold to count them there are none to be found? To be fair, I did spy today a Carolina chickadee, a cardinal, a turkey vulture and some crows, and I heard (but didn't see) some mourning doves.
