I love the variety of focal points and paths. You're right, the design element makes a difference. I noticed that the mown turf grass path has lots of non-grassy things growing there as well, all great for pollinators. My own paths have mixes of heals-all, violets, clover, sorrel, and a variety of actual grasses, all of which have planted themselves.
Perhaps my favorite line: it seems more important to save the planet than achieve peak curb appeal. Nice understatement!
